It's February, love is in the air as Valentine's day is just around the corner. It's time you rally up a loved one (this can be a husband, friend, wife, mother, father, boyfriend, girlfriend or YOURSELF) and get out and treat yourself to a local activity.
Here is my list of the local insiders 'Date Night Ideas' in South Delta.
1). Go Out For Dinner
This idea is 100% cliche BUT we have some pretty great local restaurants. I won't let myself off that easy with such a standard idea SO I have compiled a list of a few local gems you should check out.
Connaught Place Indian Restaurant - Small, cosy and casual with the best butter chicken and garlic naan on the block.
South Beach House - *Re-opening Spring 2017* I know this is in Point Roberts, but worth a mention. A great escape for a fancier feast. Fresh seafood and great ocean views.
The Primerose - Amazing greek food on the outskirts of Ladner. Recently changed owners so I really hope this Ladner gem continues to serve great food and service.
Maguro - Serving up a mean Dragon Roll and Chicken Kara Aga this is the place to go for your sushi fix.
2.) Nine & Dine
9 holes of golf and then you dine. We are so lucky to live in a mild climate that allows us to golf year round. Cove Links in Ladner has 9 holes and seasonal prices ($16.00 for adults).
3.) Driving Range
For those of you who don't have the time to spend the afternoon golfing, hit up the driving range. A bucket of balls will be a bonding experience or a chance to let off some steam. Tsawwassen Springs has 8 covered and heated stalls for the winter months.
4.) Massey Tunnel Walk & Eat at River House Restaurant
Did you know you can walk under the Massey Tunnel? This will connect you to the Millennium Trail and get you to the River House Restaurant. Click here for a map. **Please note, there is currently heavy construction on this trail. You have to take a construction road to get on this route**. To avoid the construction, park at the River House and walk at Deas Island Park.
5.) Bike To The Reef Tavern
The Reef is a Point Roberts staple. It is a run of the mill pub (pull tabs and pool tables to boot) with a great ocean view. *If you are planning on going on a weekday, the kitchen closes at 5pm.
6.) Cheap Wine and Stay Home
Go to Point Roberts and pick yourself up a nice bottle of 750ml wine. (If you live in South Delta and are eligible for Nexus - go and get it! Here is the link to get you started...it last 5 years and is $50). Next, go pick yourself up some nice meat in Tsawwassen's at Meridian Meats & Farm Market or Ladners Lux Foods and have a night in.
7.) Bowling
This is my favourite date night. Gone are the days of leaving our bubble and venturing to Richmond (ugh) for 10 pin. We have are own bowling ally in South Delta! Not only that, Uncle Bucks Fishbowl and Grill underwater themed and there is country music bumping in the background. It is a bit of a sensory overload but the lanes are in great condition and nachos are good. Also, the liquor license allows you to stand with a drink by the lanes #bowlingproblems.
8.) Beer Tasting at Four Winds Brewery
Open 7 days a week from 11am-7pm Four Winds is a family owned brewery in Delta. You can go in for a tasting and don't forget to try their authentic street tacos. If it's a nice day you can even ride your bikes to work up your thirst and appetite.
9.) Wellbrook Winery Cooking Class
My Ladner informant let me know about this great date idea. Please note, I have not personally tried out a cooking class here but after looking at the website I am ready to sign up! Check out their website http://wellbrookwinery.com/site/cooking-classes.html.
10.) Listen To Live Music
The band Eleven09 make a monthly appearance at Sharkey's Seafood Bar & Grill in Ladner. They are fun and lively rock-pop band who have a few original songs and play mainly covers. Music starts around 8pm and it is always a lively night out. To check out when they play next click
