A Family Photo Session at Centennial Beach with the Vincent Family

Summer is an amazing time for creating memorable family moments. There's no better way to capture these special moments than through a family photoshoot. This summer, I had the pleasure to work with the Vincent family in Tsawwassen for a fun and exciting family photo session. It was a beautiful evening with this sweet family, and I want to share it with you in this blog post.

The Vincent Family was full of love and energy, and each member brought their vitality to the photoshoot. The photoshoot took place at Boundary Bay, where the family got to play on the beach and have fun while I took candid shots of them.

As a photographer, I love capturing genuine moments of connection between families, and this is exactly what I did with the Vincent Family. I got to witness a family who had a special sense of closeness and love for each other, which was a joy to capture. The kids were so adorable, and I could see the love between the siblings, especially in their playful interactions.

They worked together to make each other smile and make sure that every family member had a chance to shine throughout the session. The parents were also one of the most fun and loving couples that I have had the pleasure to work with, and their love and chemistry were evident in the photos I captured.

As the family played on the beach, and I snapped away. I could see the joy in the kids’ eyes, and the happiness on the parents' faces as they looked at their children. The family photoshoot ended with the sun setting over the ocean in Boundary Bay.

In conclusion, the Vincent family photoshoot was a special day filled with joy, warmth, and love. Watching them bond and play brought joy to my work, and it's precisely the essence of why family photos are so beautiful. The resulting photos of the Vincent family were stunning, and I'm so happy to have been a part of their cherished memories. I hope this blog post inspires you to take beautiful family photos this summer, knowing that you can create memorable moments that will last a lifetime.

Capturing the Ward Family: A Family Photoshoot Experience at Community Baby Studio in Tsawwassen

Photographing a family can be a beautiful and rewarding experience, especially when the family is as warm and loving as the Wards. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing them in my new home photography studio, and it was an absolute delight. Their calm, kind, and positive energy made the whole session such a wonderful experience, especially as baby sister giggled at her big sister during the shoot. I am excited to share with you my experience of capturing the beauty of the Ward family during our family photoshoot at Community Baby Studio in Tsawwassen.

As soon as the Wards entered my studio, I could feel their positive energy and love for each other. It was easy to see the special bond between the sisters as they laughed and interacted. The Ward family came prepared with outfits that matched perfectly, which worked beautifully in creating a stunning family portrait. During the shoot, we used various props and backdrops to create a fun and fresh atmosphere. The playful expressions and smiles of the Ward family were truly a joy to capture.

We started the session with some playful shots of the sisters together, big sister was so excited and giggled throughout the entire shoot. The love between them was evident, and it made the photoshoot all the more magical.

Next, we moved on to the beautiful family portraits. Every family is unique, and the Wards are no exception. We caught some amazing group shots that really captured their love and joy for each other. Incorporating the natural light of the studio, we were able to bring out the warmth and beauty that radiated from their family.

As the session continued, I noticed that the little one was getting a bit fussy. So, instead of trying to force more poses from the babies, we decided to focus on capturing candid shots of her and momma interacting in a natural way. This approach created some of the most beautiful moments of the session: authentic, loving, and sincere shots of the family enjoying spending time together.

Photographing the Ward family was such an enjoyable experience. The love that they shared for each other and the positive energy they brought to the studio made the session full of laughter and magic. Community Baby Studio in Tsawwassen provided the perfect backdrop to capture the beauty of the Ward family. Through our session, we were able to capture not just pictures, but moments in time that they will cherish for years to come. As a photographer, I feel so blessed to have been a part of the Ward family's story, and I hope to capture more stories just like theirs in the future. To all the moms out there, cherish your loved ones and don't forget to capture these precious moments on film. They are moments that will last a lifetime.

Capturing Precious Moments: A Family Photoshoot at Earthwise Garden in Tsawwassen

This shoot was extra special for me. Why? Because it's my sweet sister and her family! It was such a fun shoot photographing the Veen family at the Earthwise Garden in Tsawwassen. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom, and the family looked stunning amidst the beautiful scenery. Siblings Alex and Emily were full of energy and enthusiasm, and the parents were loving and affectionate. It was a pleasure photographing this lovely family on this cloudy Sunday.

The Earthwise Garden in Tsawwassen is an ideal location for a family photoshoot – vibrant and charming places that was great for family exploration. The blooming cherry blossoms made for a beautiful background. Led by their parents, Alex and Emily ran around and explored the garden while I captured their playful and adventurous spirits through my camera lens.

The happiness and gratitude in their eyes warmed my heart. As a photographer, it was such a rewarding moment for me as I was blessed to have captured their joy and love through these photos.

It was one of the most fulfilling and joyful experiences to have photographed the Veen family amidst the beauty of Earthwise Garden in Tsawwassen. Moments like these remind me of why I love what I do. It is so fulfilling to create a lasting memory through photos that families can cherish forever. I look forward to more opportunities to capture the love, joy, and beauty of families through my lens, and I hope every family has the chance to preserve their precious memories through photography.

Centennial Beach Family Photos | Kuelen Family | Community Photography South Delta

I’m so excited to finally be posting this dreamy family photo session. Summer time, hands down, is the best time for family photos. The wildflowers are out and Centennial Beach is at it’s finest.

I met the Kuelen family in Bounrday Bay to start the shoot. Their outfit choice was my favourite, ever! Light, neutral colors always photograph so beautifully with my photography style. We played in the flower fields and the kids loved spending time with mom and dad. As the sun set, we made our way to Boundary Bay beach. The water was warm and I loved how by the end of the shoot the family were all knees deep in the ocean.

Thank you to the Keulen family for letting me take these photos for you. You guys are the best to take photos with! Hopefully we can do it again sometime soon :)

Paige :)

Centennial Beach Family Photos | Tsawwassen, BC | Community Photography South Delta

June family photos in Tsawwassen may be my favourite! The weather is warming up, the wildflowers are out and Centennial Beach is at it’s finest.

This photo session was special for me because these are two of my good friends and their sweet baby Bowen, who is just the sweetest little guys!

I met Candice and Brent for their family photos in Tsawwassen and we started in a flower field. Bowen was all smiles and the yellow flowers complimented the sun shining off the trees. When the sun set a little more in the sky we moved to the beach in Boundary Bay for sunset photos. It was approaching baby bedtime as the sun set so he just snuggled up against mom and feel asleep for part of our session :) I love big smiles from kids but I almost love snuggly moments more. Once the sunset, Bowen work up for one last hurrah and was all smiles for the send of the session. Seriously, scroll down, it doesn’t get any cuter!

Thank you Brent and Candice for such a fun and memorable family photo session in Tsawwassen. I loved taking these photos for you guys and I can ‘t wait for our next milestone session together.

Centennial Beach Extended Family Photo Session | Tsawwassen, BC

Whenever I take photos with Kayla Ann I always know it's going to be a great session. I’ve bee lucky enough to take her daughters newborn photos and fast forward one year and her little girl is one! She's amazing at bringing together all the pieces to create a perfect photo session...outfits for the family, hair and makeup done, and most importantly, she’s ready to enjoy the session and her time in front of the camera! This was a super special photo session for a couple of reasons 1.) because it was her beautiful daughter, Emery's 1st birthday AND 2.) She had her family visiting Tsawwassen and this would be an extended family session, hurray for being able to travel in Canada again!

I met up with her family down at Centennial Beach an hour before sunset. It was another hot summer evening here in Tsawwassen but luckily it was starting to cool down a little. We began the photo session with Emery’s birthday cake photos. Following, we began with the family photos. The whole family was so photogenic, it made my job SO easy :) I loved capturing the grandparents with their granddaughter and all three generations together. We had a perfect sunset and ended up with our toes in the water..my favourite way to end a photo session!

Fraser River Maternity Photos | Ladner, BC | Community Photography South Delta

This maternity session was a special one for me. The dreamy girl you see in the photos is one of my best friends! It’s such an amazing things watching your friends who you’ve experienced so much life with make the transition into motherhood. And it’s EXTRA special when you’re able to document it through photos.

The day leading up to Meghan’s maternity photos were cold and wet in South Delta. The weather forecast was calling for rain all day with sunny breaks at sunset. These type of unpredictable days are such a gamble…you’ll either have rainy looking photos OR if the sun breaks through, the most beautiful sunset. As I was driving down the highway from Tsawwassen to Ladner, the sun broke through the clouds and I knew we were in for a great sunset that night.

We took Meghan’s maternity photos down by the Fraser River in Ladner. Meghan arrived looking amazing (as always) and she chose two dresses from my client wardrobe to wear. We spent the next hour taking her photos, laughing and exploring the area. The sunset was AMAZING and it totally complimented her beautiful baby bump.

So much love for this momma and feeling so blessed I was able to capture it on camera :)

At Home Newborn Photos | Ladner, BC | Community Photography

One of the best parts of being a part of a small community is that I get to build relationships with my clients that go beyond just the photoshoot. I was so happy to get to know Pilar and her family during their newborn shoot. I have since been doing her fitness classes (Pilarfit) and they are so great!

Even though she said she was nervous to be in front of the camera, Pilar was a totally natural and really put her family at ease during the shoot. She had the ability to like create such candid genuine moments between her and her family. Her two older boys were so lovely, took directions beautifully and were so gentle with their new baby sister. It was such a treat to photograph.

We did these photos when Freya was six weeks old which is a little bit older that I typically shoot newborn sessions. I actually really enjoyed it because she was so smiley which you don’t get with the really teeny tiny newborns. She was just so sweet in front of the camera.

At the very end of the photo session they wanted to bring a little bit more of their personality into the photo so they all changed into camo for a couple quick pictures which I think is awesome!  I think it's great when people want to bring their own style and create photos that are a true representation of they family!

Thanks so much for including me in your beautiful family photos Pilar! I’m looking forward to you kicking my butt in a workout this week!

Tsawwassen Newborn Photos with the Findlay Family

Lifestyle newborn sessions are my favourite! My goal is to capture all the snuggles, love and soft moments shared between a family in the first couple of weeks after baby comes home from the hospital. I had a perfect Saturday morning with the Findlay family after their beautiful baby girl Emery (LOVE this baby name!) came into the world!

I loved this session for so many reasons. First, Mom Kayla - Ann was amazing at preparing all the small details for the session that make such a BIG difference in photos. She had her hair and makeup done before the session, she brought two outfits, one casual and one a little more dressed up with added an amazing variety to their photo gallery and had a few different pattered swaddles that brought in amazing accent colors. Second, the dynamics between Mom and Dad was amazing! Both so photogenic and the way they moved together I really didn’t need to give much direction. They were both so relaxed infront of the camera and with each other. Lastly, baby Emerey was a DREAM baby to photograph! She slept for most of the session and when she was awake was not fussy, just wanting to be cuddled by mom and dad.

Mom and Dad looked happy, at ease and in love. Grandma arrived at the end of the photo session for some beautiful moment with her grand daughter and daughter.. I loved capturing the three generations all together.

Thank you to the Findlay family for allowing me to capture these special moments for you. I love shooting with you guys and look forward to doing it again this summer!

Paige :)

2nd Birthday Photos at Centennial Beach, Boundary Bay, Tsawwassen

This little love is turning 2!

I had the pleasure of meeting the Bellinger family this past summer for their Boundary Bay family photos. I LOVED working with momma Carlie. She has an eye for detail and loves putting effort into her photo sessions. She plans the perfect outfits and had a vision for her session. We would go back and forth with outfit recommendations, location options and photos she hoped to capture.

We did little Elle’s birthday photos a week before her big day. We met up at the fields just off Centennial Beach on they dyke. Her photos look so bright and have a dreamy sunset in the background, however, if you looked the other way there was a HUGE dark rain cloud moving in fast!

Elle is such a sweetheart and a pleasure to take photos with. It was awesome capturing these milestone photos for her and her family!

Welcome Baby Vivienne | Tsawwassen Newborn Photos | Community Photography South Delta

Local mom , Carmen, and I share a love for some of the same things...supporting local and small shop shopping, more specifically, Buttercups Children’s Boutique in Ladner! We connected for her newborn photos through owner Jessica of Buttercups after I'd taken her at-home newborn photos.

I showed up to Carmen's house in Tsawwassen for her newborn photos. I can't say they were actually newborn photos; baby Vivienne was born during the Covid lockdown and so she was actually a couple months old by the time the photos were taken. Two months may be my new favourite age for baby pics though because you get beautiful pictures of babies eyes focusing on camera and some smiles…or maybe it was just baby Vivienne, she was just the sweetest to take photos of. Combo her with her big brother and it was a cuteness overload :)

There are so many reasons why I loved taking photos for Carmen and her family:

1.) OMG her SON Sawyer! The worlds cutest 18 month old with a big personality and a love for his little sister. Just look at the pictures and of his rolls and his OUTFIT!

2.) Carmen and baby V were a dream to photograph! Both so photogenic and comfortable in front of the camera and it was amazing to see baby V follow suit of her momma and together they just played off their love for each other!

3.) Dad went with the flow and was game for everything! Nothing phased him, with a big smile on his face he just enjoyed this time spent snuggling with his family while taking pics.

It was such a pleasure to work with this lovely family at their home for baby V's at home newborn photos in Tsawwassen. I look forward to our family session together!

CENTENNIAL BEACH MATERNITY PHOTOS

I had the pleasure of taking Jeannines maternity photos at Centennial Beach earlier in the summer. I was thrilled when she reached out to me a month later asking me if she and her sister could gift their mother a photo session! Of course, I was so happy to work with her again!

I loved to see the connection between this stunning mother and her beautiful daughters. The nicest family to spend the evening with down in Boundary Bay!

How to Prepare for your Social Media Photoshoot

A photoshoot is one of the best investments you can make for your business in order take your brand to the next level.

In a content-driven day and age, brand photos that accurately reflect who you are, what your brand is about, and the personality behind it all are a sure way to attract the audience of your dreams. Having good brand photography can do so much for your brand so I want to make sure we nail your shoot!

To help you prepare for your next photoshoot, I’ve decided to share a few of my favorite tips and tricks when it comes to shoots so you’ll be totally prepared and we’ll create images that you LOVE!

Plan, Plan Plan!

The key to a successful branding photoshoot is to plan a head! Create a mood board on Pinterest and share it with me. If you have any Instagram accounts you love to follow and aspire to be like, send them my way (and then we will make it your own :). Before going into a photoshoot you should have an idea of your target market and your brands personality (are you fun? professional? friendly?) . I’m here for you 100% of the way and want lots of back and forth so I can make sure I’m going to get images you’ll LOVE!

Go Pro: Hair & Make-Up

It looks amazing on camera and removes the stress of getting ready on your own.  Whether it’s lash extensions or blown-out hair, professional hair and makeup will give you an extra boost of confidence in front of the camera, and it always photographs like a dream. If you’re working with a makeup artist, have them apply your makeup in natural light (if possible) so that it looks fresh and not too heavy. Plus, that’s the type of light we’ll be shooting in, so it’ll give you the best expectation of how it will translate on camera. Most of my clients feel like their makeup is “too much” at first, since it’s more than they would wear on a normal day, so if you feel that way, don’t worry! Good makeup artists know how to get it just right for the camera — and my clients always love the final result. If you need a recommendation for hair and makeup, I'd be happy to pass along the artists I love working with! Just let me know and I’ll send you their information. I know they’ll take good care of you!

Choosing your shoot Location

The location of your portrait session is completely up to you! I shoot ‘natural light’ meaning using the light from the sun. To achieve the bright and airy look of my photos, a space that is, outdoor, open air environments are always my first choice. Or if your session is inside, a home or an office with big windows and white walls is my preferred choice.

What to Wear

When choosing colors for your outfits, I recommend selecting lighter, neutral tones and more muted shades. You can never go wrong with light neutral colors like cream, taupe, camel or light gray. The camera loves shades of soft pinks and muted blues, mixed with sophisticated light-colored neutrals. That softer, more pastel-leaning color palette fits beautifully with my editing style. Try to avoid colors like red, royal blue and bright yellow as these colors will ‘color cast’ your skin tone. You’ll also want to consider any colors you’ll want to incorporate into your Instagram grid to keep the look and tones consistent. Or do you have brand colors? If yes, then wear them!

Number of  Outfits

I recommend 2-3 outfits for a 1 hour photo session. I want to deliver photos that are diverse and look like they were taken on different days of the week. You may even consider having a blazer for some photos and taking it off for a few - it creates a total different look! You may want to also consider having on business or done up look and one casual outfit to bring out your personality in photos.

Styling your Session

I recommend bringing some props with you to make the images look more editorial. You may want to set up a picnic or incorporate another special element into your session like fresh flowers, a hobby you do or a family pet! If you are a business professional you may want to bring your laptop, notebook or cell phone to show you hustling your your clients.

Think Ahead

Take a look at your calendar and see if there are any important dates coming up in the next few months. Is it your birthday? An anniversary? Earth Day? Halloween? Consider bringing a prop to the photoshoot so you can have a specific photo to post on that special day.

You’ll also want to take into consideration the changing of seasons. If your photoshoot is in the summer time you may want to have a summery looks but bring in some elements or an outfit change for the fall time.

I’m here for you!

I know I just gave you A LOT to think about! Don’t panic :) Just take it one step at a time. And remember, I’m here for you! If you’re deciding between a few outfits and can’t commit, no problem! I’m here. If you love two locations but can’t make up your mind, no worries! I can help with that, too. If you need a recommendation of any kind, I’m on it! Remember, I’m just one email away :)

I’m so excited! See you soon!

Miller Newborn Photos | Lifestyle Newborn Photos

I’ve been a photographer almost 4 years now. My style has grown and I've adapted and love my job more and more every day. But the thing I love the most about being in business this long is photographing the same family more than once! I love to see a family growing in numbers and capturing milestone moments for them. Seriously, there is nothing better!

I first took photos for the Miller family after the arrival of their first daughter two years ago. So it was an absolute pleasure when they reached out to me to take at home newborn photos when their second daughter came into this world.

This was my first newborn photoshoot since the COVID-19 quarentine had ended. I was SO excited to be back doing newborn sessions again. I wore a face mask and had in my mind the whole time to keep a safe physical distance. When I walked into the Miller home, I was amazed to see how much older sister A had grown! She was a complete sweetheart and gentle with her new baby sister. Their baby was a little replica of big sister (genetics never sease to amaze me!). Baby A was the sleepiest little bundle of joy with the most amazing thick black hair. Both Mom and Dad were so welcoming and at ease with now being a family of four; it made my job a complete breeze. I loved their outfit choices, especially how it tied into their home decor. Just a side note - when choosing outfits for a newborn or family photo shoot, make them match your home decor. My wish is that you will have these photos printed and hung on your walls as art so it’s a good idea if they coordinate!

Thank you to the Miller family for welcoming me back into your home to take newborn photos for you. Your welcoming and kind manner makes my job fun, relaxed and reminds me of why I love this job - to connect with amazing people like you! You totally are nailing this family of four thing and hopefully I’ll see you around town one of these days.

GUIDON FAMILY PHOTOS | TSAWWASSEN, BC

I’ve called Tsawwassen my home since I was 4 years old when my family moved here from Toronto. I spent my youth exploring ever inch of the neighbourhoods beaches, trails and forests. When I became a Tsawwassen family photographer, I thought I knew ever single photoshoot ‘secret spot’. That was however, I connected with another local Delta photographer on Facebook. She had the most beautiful work and stunning images of children playing on what looked like a river bank. Something you’d find down south in North Carolina or Florida. I met up with the other local photographer for a coffee at Petra’s. She had been in the photography game for a long while and now that her own children were grown, she was planning on getting out of the family photography business and move into commercial and big production photography. so bless her, she told me of he secret shoot location in Tsawwassen!

I couldn’t wait to test the location out for myself. When my dear friend Nicole, who I spent my early 20s working at Earls on Robson street with, families photoshoot was nearing, I suggested we tried this new location. Nicole and her beautiful family arrived looking as stunning as always. The last time I photographed Nicole she was 8 month pregnant with her second daughter, so it was amazing to see them as a family of 4.

The new shooting location was nothing short of amazing. The Guidon family was so loving and easy to work with. Older sister was so happy to be infront of the camera and play with mom and dad, while little sister wanted to hug onto momma - which made for beautiful photos. I’m capturing this time in your lives after all.

The highlight of the shoot was walking out onto the glassy tide flats at the end of the session. The sun was glowing the most beautiful golden hue onto the water. Some colors I’ve never photographed before. And as we were walking out, we had eagles soaring all around us. I know I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, we are SO lucky to live here!

Thank you to the Guindon family for coming and meeting up with me and testing out this new shoot location :) I love seeing you guys and love seeing your beautiful family all together.

Another HUGE thank you to Rebekka Logan for taking the time to sit with me over coffee and let me in on one of your favourite shoot locations. You’re so talented and I thank you!

NATALIE LANGSTON CENTENNIAL BEACH FAMILY PHOTOS

You may be surprised to hear this, but the job of a photographer is a little lonely. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE what I do! But in reality, 10% of my time is spent with clients and the other 90% of the time is spent editing, marketing and taking care of business. That’s why meeting up with clients to shoot is the highlight of my job and it makes it even more special when they are return clients. It’s so cool to take photos yearly, or in this case, multiple times a year with a family. To see how much a baby grows and learns during the first year of life is AMAZING!

I’ve had the pleasure to shoot with Natalie and her sweet family multiple times in the past year. I first met her at a sunrise photo session at the Abbotsford Tulip Festival. She’s a blast to shoot with and makes my job so easy as she’d comfortable in front of the camera and totally knows what works. We also met up for her Halloween family photos, pumpkin patch photos at Emma Lea Farms in Ladner, Pierces 1st Birthday pics, her Christmas card portraits, the sunflower festival (take a look through my Instagram to check some of these pictures out!) and now I had the pleasure to meet up to take family portraits in Boundary Bay.

When they arrived for their photoshoot, the family looked amazing! Nowadays the first comment from most Moms is how ‘done-up’ they feel after months of not doing hair and makeup in quarantine. What a confidence boost! Natalie’s dress was beautiful and bonus! It was from Forever 21. Pierce had grown up SO much since our last time together in December. He was bigger, WAY faster and a big personality. Just the same way Tom was when he was that age :)

Once we started shooting, I quickly discovered Pierce had his own agenda, which most 1.5 year olds have. I like to call these ‘child led sessions’, which means we let them do their thing and we incorporate ourselves into whatever they are doing. And once you see the pictures you’ll see it totally worked! We were able to get some beautiful smiles and candid moments from our shoot. One cool highlight was it was Pierce's first time seeing the ocean! I loved capturing moments of him walking down to the beach and throwing rocks into the water. What a special moment to have caught on camera.

Thank you to Natalie, Gary and Pierce for coming out to Tsawwassen for your family portraits. It’s always a pleasure to shoot with you guys and I hope we can do it a bunch more this year!

Veen Family Photos | Boundary Bay, Tsawwassen

This session was a special one for me because it featured my sister and her beautiful family! My sister and my niece and nephew have always been gracious models (just check out my past blogs - you’ll see them more than once!). When I was a newby photographer they’d be patient with me as I snapped away with little to no experience. That was almost 4 years ago now! And in 4 years, I’ve never had the chance to take family photos for them; my brother-in-law is the Chef/Owner of Tap Restaurant in South Surrey and he often works crazy hours. The Covid-19 restrictions closed the restaurant for dine-in service and they have adapted to an awesome take-out menu. For once, my brother-in-law was off for the night and free for family photos. Silver lining right!

I met up with the Veen family in Boundary Bay, Tsawwassen. The first thing I noticed was Aron’s stunning Aritzia dress, which I knew would photograph like a dream. When I send outfit suggestions to clients, the first thing I say is dress Mom first and then choose the rest of the family's outfits. So much of the shoot revolves around Mom; just check out these photos you’ll see what I mean :) She is the focal point, the heart of the shoot.

We began our shoot and soon discovered our Tsawwassen beach location was the lady bug capital of the WORLD (who would have thought?!). The beautiful little creatures were EVERYWHERE! And knowing my niece and nephew, they love lady bugs. The first 20 minute of our shoot was a mix of taking pictures and catching lady bugs, which made for beautiful candid moments. The rest of our photoshoot was filled with love, joy and genuine family time. The Boundary Bay sunset was one for the books, which in my experience never disappoints.

To the Veen family, thank you for joining me in Tsawwassen for your family photos. I LOVED capturing these moments and memories for you. You’re love for each other is easy and true, which reflect so beautifully in your photos.

What To Wear: Winter Family Photo Sessions | Vancouver Family Photographer | Community Photographer

WHAT TO WEAR FOR WINTER FAMILY PHOTO SESSIONS

When winter arrives and temperatures cool, sometimes it’s just too cold for a dress and heels by themselves (no matter how warm your coverup overcoat is!). As a Vancouver family photographer, let’s face it, it’s chilly fifty percent of the year! Instead of only shooting in the warm summer months, I encourage clients to shoot year round! We are so lucky we live in a city where we have diverse seasons to make every family photo session unique! So I have some suggestions for the winter months that will still help you look amazing and keep your color tones camera friendly.

During winter, warm neutrals like camel, taupe, cream, champagne, and gray look amazing. If you’d like to incorporate color, choose jewel-toned versions of the primary colors. Here are some examples: mustard over yellow, crimson or burgundy over red, over orange, sage or emerald over green, and powder blue or navy over blue. These jewel tones will photograph beautifully in the winter when there is not much bright colors to contrast in nature. And don’t forget to layer up! Add a peacoat, tights, scarves and heeled booties to a form-fitting cocktail dress or skirt. Dress your little ones in wool hats, mittens and scarves to keep warm and add extra interest to the phot.

SNOW DAY SESSIONS:

A dress or skirt with a big peacoat can never go wrong! A neutral coloured coat with a touque, scarf and gloves or a warm, oversized, snuggly sweater with tall boots and a hat is a super fun look, perfect for the snow! The great thing about snow is it creates a beautiful white backdrop, so even though it might seem counterintuitive, soft pastel, muted colors like soft pinks and powder blues still look great! And, remember, regardless of the setting, you can never go wrong with neutrals with pops of colour!
