Why Family Photos Are So Important: Golden Hour Photos at Centennial Beach

As a mom, I know how important it is to capture every moment with my family. Whether it's a small milestone or just a moment of joy, I try my best to capture it all. That's why when the Bazzard family reached out to me for a family photo session, I didn't hesitate. We decided to take the photos at Centennial Beach in Tsawwassen during golden hour, and it was an experience I'll never forget. In this blog post, I want to share with you why family photos are so important, and how this photo session was a beautiful reminder of that.

1. Memories: The first reason why family photos are so important is that they capture memories that will last a lifetime. When you look back at them, you'll remember how you felt, what you were doing, and who you were with. That's exactly what the Bazzard family wanted to do with our photo session. They wanted to make sure that they had beautiful photos to look back on when their daughter is all grown up and they can reminisce about their happy days spent together.

2. Connection: When you take family photos, you're not just taking pictures of faces, you're capturing the connection between family members. You'll see how much you love each other and cherish each other's company. That's exactly what happened during our photo session at Centennial Beach. The love between this family was palpable, and it was a beautiful reminder of why family is so important.

3. Milestones: Another reason why family photos are so important is that they capture milestones in your life. Whether it's your child's first birthday or their first day of kindergarten, these moments are important to remember. In our photo session, we captured the Bazzard family's daughter playing in the sand, searching for seashells, and laughing with her parents. These are the moments that they will look back on with fondness, and they will see how much they've grown and changed over time.

4. Happiness: When you take family photos, you're capturing pure happiness. The joy that comes from spending time with your loved ones is something that cannot be replicated. During our photo session, I saw firsthand how happy the Bazzard family was. They laughed, played, and just enjoyed each other's company. It was a beautiful reminder that happiness can be found in the smallest moments, and family is what makes life worth living.

5. Love: Finally, family photos capture love. It's a love that is indescribable but can be seen in every photo taken. I saw that love during our photo session with the Bazzard family. They had a love that was so pure and genuine, and it was a beautiful reminder that love is the foundation of family.

Family photos are so important for so many reasons. They capture memories, connection, milestones, happiness, and love. Our photo session at Centennial Beach was a beautiful reminder of that. It was a reminder that no matter how busy life gets, we should always make time for family. We should always cherish and capture those special moments because they will last a lifetime. So, take those family photos, and don't feel guilty for doing so. Because when you look back at them, you'll be reminded of just how lucky you are.

Ladner Family Photos | Kym of The Happy Photos | Community Photography South Delta

I had the most wonderful time with Kym and her family at their annual family photo session last year! On a sunny day in Ladner, we visited an apple orchard to capture some pretty incredible family moments.

The photos were taken at golden hour, when the light is soft and the colors are all glowy. We captured a range of emotion and energy as the kids played in the orchard. It was clear that Kym and her family have a total bond and just love spending time together. Each snap of the camera caught something special between them.

This sweet family has been having photos taken by me, Paige Fraser of Community Photography, for years now. I have had the privilege of watching Kym's family grow and capturing these special memories for her. Kym always does an amazing job at choosing wardrobe and scouting locations for her family photos in Ladner and Tsawwassen.

Kym, I hope you cherished for many years to come! What a beautiful family! Thank you, Kym and your lovely family, for allowing me to document these precious moments in time.

A Golden Hour Family Photo Session with the Findlay Family & Grandparents

As a photographer, one of my favorite moments of the day is Golden Hour, that magical time of day when the sun is beginning to set and the light is soft, warm, and beautiful. And that is exactly the time when I had the pleasure of taking photos of the Findlay family and their grandparents. I have worked with this family before, and it was an absolute joy to see them again and capture their love and connection at a little forest nook in Tsawwassen.

The day of the photo session was beautiful, and sunny but super cold for early spring (you’d never be able to tell from the photos though!). I arrived at the location a bit earlier to scout the area, find the best spots to take the photos.

When the Findlays arrived, I greeted them with a warm hug and introduced them to the location. We talked about their outfits, the poses and what to expect from the session. They were SO relaxed and excited, and that made my job so much easier. We started with some photos of the kids and grandparents, and then we moved on to the family portraits.

One of the things I love about family sessions is that each family has its unique dynamics, and it's my job to capture them on camera. With the Findlays, I could see the love and affection that they have for each other, and that made my job so much easier.

As the sun started to set, the light turned into a golden and warm hue, and that created a magical atmosphere in the photos. We moved around the location, trying different poses and spots, and the family was always game for it.

After about 45 hours of shooting, the kids were getting cold so the grandparents took them back to the car to warm up. This gave me the perfect opportunity to focus on the parents photos. And oh my goodness, so much love between these two!!

At the end of the session, I knew that I had captured some gorgeous and meaningful photos that they will cherish for years to come.

A family photo session during Golden Hour at a beautiful location is a magical and meaningful experience for the whole family. As a photographer, my job is to capture the love and connection that your family has and freeze it in time. If you are thinking about booking a family photo session, I would suggest finding a location that has meaning to you, wearing outfits that make you feel comfortable and confident, and bringing some props or accessories that represent your family's personality. But ultimately, my biggest advice is to relax, have fun, and let me capture the beauty and magic of your family.

R + B Couple Photos Session | Centennial Beach Tsawwassen | Community Photography South Delta

Ray Win and Bruce are two of my kids favorite people. I’ve known them for 2 years now when I trusted Ray Win with the day to day care of my children at her daycare. As a mother, choosing a daycare is hard. Harder than I ever imagined. I went to check out a bunch when Tom was one and immediately when I walked into Ray Win’s I knew this was the place I wanted to send my kids. Georgia, will always reach for Ray Win when we arrive in the morning and is so happy when I leave her for the day. Bruce began calling my son Tommy Gun and now Tom insists that’s what we call him. Bruce, I’m not sure I’ve told you this, but when Tom see’s you at daycare, he talks about it, a lot LOL!

We planned their photo session originally in November. They had just eloped in Hawaii and wanted to do some local portraits. After our photo session was rained out 3 times we decided to wait for the summer and I’m so glad we did!

I met Bruce and Ray Win down at Centennial Beach. It was a perfect evening. Warm with light cloud cover, I knew we would have a beautiful sunset. We spent the hour we had together just having a good time. They were so relaxed and we just took our time capturing some great photos.

Ray Win and Bruce, thanks for hanging out with me at Centennial Beach for your photo session. It was such a good time! I really hope we can do it again soon! You guys are a dream to photograph!

CENTENNIAL BEACH MATERNITY PHOTOS | TSAWWASSEN, BC| COMMUNITY PHOTOGRAPHY SOUTH DELTA

When I first met K + M at Centennial Beach for their photo session, I knew in the first few minutes of meeting each other, it was going to be an amazing shoot. For a few reasons. First, they brought a bottle of tequila as a prop for their photos (I’m a big fan of a good Margarita!). Second, I could tell right away from their energy they wanted photos that were natural, candid and how do I say it...not cheesy? Third, they told me that at the end of their photoshoot, they wanted to jump in the ocean. Some of my favorite photographers live in California and Hawaii and they always shoot their clients in crashing waves and playing in the ocean. Living in British Columbia I guess because of the weather 80% of the year, I guess I never really considered WE live in a place where I could pull this off..was I so wrong!

We had a beautiful evening and I don’t think either M or K stopped smiling the whole time. When the sun was just about to set we made our way to the water. Luckily for us, the tide had just came in and the water was so warm. I can’t wait for you to see the photos so instead of me blabbing on, just scroll down!

To K + M, thank you for taking the plunge! I loved having my creative juice’s flowing and allowing me to capture something new. I know your little baby will have endless adventures with you two as parents!

To any future clients wanting to end their photos in the ocean. I’m totally down all the time!

Dueck Family Photos | Centennial Beach, Tsawwassen | Community Photography South Delta

One of the biggest compliments when your a family photographer is being asked to photograph a family whose mom, is a photographer herself! That was the case with the Dueck family. Mom Dayna has raised 6 kids (yes 6!) and is now pursuing her calling to become a midwife. And if you’ve met her, you’ll know she is going to make a pretty darn good midwife, that’s for sure!

The Dueck family photo session was at Centennial Beach in Tsawwassen. I love getting know local families, especially when they are as lovely as the Dueck family. The dynamic between them was kind, loving, respectful and fun. You could tell they really enjoyed each other’s company as they laughed and smiled through our photo shoot. Six kids later, you could tell mom Dayna and dad Stan were in love - just look at the way they look at each other in the photos! So much love, so much fun.

It was a perfect evening down at Centennial Beach for their family photos. Clear skies with enough clouds for a pastel sunset.

To the Dueck family, thank you for spending a wonderful evening at the beach with me! Your family is an absolute joy and I’m so happy to have connected with you!

A Very Special Centennial Beach Family Session | Community Photography South Delta | Family Photos

“Tomorrow, they’ll be a little older than they were today. Today is a gift.”

I was first introduced to Sharon through my sister Briar. Briar and Sharon work together in the wedding industry. Sharon, however, for the past year has been on a leave from her job so she could be by her oldest sons side as he battled an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Cameron, Sharon's seven year old son, in the past year has undergone numerous surgeries, along with chemo and radiation. When Sharon was with Cameron in the hospital, they made a list of things they wanted to do once they were out. For Sharon, family photos were at the top of her list.

I arrived to Centennial Beach in Tsawwassen 20 minutes before the session began and it was raining. It had actually been raining the past 2 weeks. The session was date sensitive as a key family member was only in town for a couple days. There was no rescheduling for weather. I pulled my umbrellas from my car, however, minutes before we began shooting the rain stopped.

The dynamic between the family was loving, kind and fun. Mom Sharon has an infectious smile and they all laughed super easily. Both boys, took to the water. Mid winter in Vancouver and they were jumping over the waves in their boots. The light broke through the clouds as we were finishing our session. It was a perfect afternoon.

To the Bulger family, your courage and love can be seen from miles away. Allowing me to capture your family photos has been a privilege. Thank you for allowing me to capture this special moment for you :)

WELCOME BABY CHARLIE | AT HOME NEWBORN SESSION | COMMUNITY PHOTOGRAPHY TSAWWASSEN

I am the luckiest photographer around that I can spend my days with sweet Moms and adorable babies. Photographing babies is so special. My sweet baby girl is already 4 months old and when I photograph a 2 week old baby it really makes me realize how fast they grow.
